The earliest records of the building as it is today were to the Black Boy Inn, a pub, in a document dated 1745. Most of the building has been changed over the years, particularly after the 1700s, but a few of the original features remain the same, such as a chimneystack in the hall of the building. : England, Englanti, Holiday, Lincoln, city, kaupunki, kesäloma, matka, travel
Exchequer Gate Located at the cathedral end of Castle Hill, this is where tenants who rented property from the church came to pay their rents. A chequered cloth was used to aide the counting of the rent monies, and it is from the alternating black and white pattern of the cloth that we get the word 'Exchequer'. The gate was built in the 14th century, and probably acted as the main, ceremonial access point to the Cathedral close. : England, Englanti, Holiday, Lincoln, city, kaupunki, kesäloma, matka, travel Exchequer Gate Located at the cathedral end of Castle Hill, this is where tenants who rented property from the church came to pay their rents. Tithe Barn The Tithe Barn in Vicar's Court dates from around 1440. It was badly damaged during the Civil War when Cromwell's Troops stormed through the area. Connected, as the barn was to the Cathedral, both the barn and the Cathedral itself were treated as enemy property. Originally the barn would have been a warehouse but features inside suggest that at some time it may have been an infirmary or refectory. More recently it served as the dining room and kitchen to the Lincoln Girl's School which was located on the hill just below it. It now forms part of the University of Lincoln's School of Art & Design. : England, Englanti, Holiday, Lincoln, city, kaupunki, kesäloma, matka, travel Decorative gate A decorative gate at Greestone Place : England, Englanti, Holiday, Lincoln, city, kaupunki, kesäloma, matka, travel A short rest Resting for a while at Greestone Place : England, Englanti, Holiday, Lincoln, city, kaupunki, kesäloma, matka, travel Vicars Court Vicars Court, built in the late 13th century and still in residential use : England, Englanti, Holiday, Lincoln, city, kaupunki, kesäloma, matka, travel

The palace's most notable surviving feature is the West Hall, built over an undercroft by the Burgundian-born Bishop St Hugh of Lincoln and completed in the 1230s. Waterford clock Nice-looking Waterford clock : England, Englanti, Holiday, Lincoln, city, kaupunki, kesäloma, matka, travel The Norman House Norman House on Steep Hill is an historic building and an example of Norman domestic architecture. The architectural evidence suggests a date between 1170 and 1180. It has been designated a Grade I listed building by English Heritage. : England, Englanti, Holiday, Lincoln, city, kaupunki, kesäloma, matka, travel Jew's House The Jew's House is one of the earliest extant town houses in England. It lies immediately below Jew's Court. Dating from the mid-twelfth century, the building originally consisted of a hall at first floor level, measuring approximately 12 by 6 metres, above service and storage spaces at ground level. Part of the façade survives; the elaborately carved doorway, the remains of two Romanesque double-arch windows and much of the stonework on the upper storey. A chimney breast rises over the arch above the front door, serving the fireplace on the upper floor. There were once two columns supporting the arch, but these have gone. The house has traditionally been associated with the thriving Jewish community in Medieval Lincoln. Anti-Semitic hysteria was stoked up by the case of Little Saint Hugh of Lincoln in 1255, and in 1290, the entire Jewish community was expelled from England; the Jew's House supposedly being seized from a Jewish owner. : England, Englanti, Holiday, Lincoln, city, kaupunki, kesäloma, matka, travel Jew's Court Jews' Court is the oldest synagogue in the British Isles. A Norman building on Steep Hill in Lincoln, immediately above Jew's House, it is dated to between 1150 and 1180. It is "probably the only standing medieval synagogue in England" and is a Grade I listed building. The building is thought to have been used as a synagogue until the expulsion of the entire Jewish community from England in 1290. A niche on the eastern wall currently used as an ark may date from this period. In 1910, a well was dug in the basement of the building; the owner subsequently claimed that this was where the body of Little Saint Hugh of Lincoln had been found and charged people to see it. In 1992, Jewish services were restarted in the building and still continue; the remainder of the building operates as a bookshop. : England, Englanti, Holiday, Lincoln, city, kaupunki, kesäloma, matka, travel
