It bore features of the Baroque style, and its shape, finalised by the middle 18th century, is attributed to German architect Andreas Schlüter, whose first design is likely to date from 1702, though the palace incorporated earlier parts seen in 1688 by Nicodemus Tessin. It served as a residence to various Electors of Brandenburg. It was the principal residence and winter residence of the Hohenzollern Kings of Prussia from 1701 to 1918. After the unification of Germany in 1871, it was also the central residence for the German Emperors. It became a museum following the fall of the German Empire in 1918. The palace was heavily damaged by Allied bombing in World War II. Although it could have been repaired at great expense, the palace was demolished in 1950 by the German Democratic Republic authorities, despite West German protests. Following the reunification of Germany, it was decided to rebuild the entire exterior of the palace in the original style except for one side. The new building will have the cubature of the former palace and include authentically reconstructed facades on three of the four exterior sides of the building. The interior will be modern, but the facades of one of the courts will be in the original style (Schlüterhof). However, the floorplan has been designed to allow potential future reconstruction of notable historical rooms. The building will house the Humboldtforum museum and congress complex, and is scheduled to be finished 14 September 2019 : 2016, Berliini, Berlin, Fujifilm, Germany, Saksa, digital image, historia, history, kaupunki, kesäloma, matka, summer holiday, town, travel Graffiti Graffiti on the bank of River Spree : 2016, Berliini, Berlin, Fujifilm, Germany, Saksa, digital image, historia, history, kaupunki, kesäloma, matka, summer holiday, town, travel 20160628 Berlin XT1 1754 On the left is The Reichstag President's Palace, which was designed by Paul Wallot and erected 1899-1904 on the only undeveloped land in its immediate vicinity. On the right is Reichstag building. In 1882, another architectural contest was held, with 200 architects participating. This time the winner, the Frankfurt architect Paul Wallot, would actually see his Neo-Baroque project executed. The Reichstag's decorative sculptures, reliefs, and inscriptions were by sculptor Otto Lessing. On 29 June 1884, the foundation stone was finally laid by Wilhelm I, at the east side of the Königsplatz. Before construction was completed by Philipp Holzmann A.G. in 1894. In 1992, Norman Foster won yet another architectural contest for the reconstruction of the building. His winning concept looked very different from what was later executed. Notably, the original design did not include a cupola. : 2016, Berliini, Berlin, Fujifilm, Germany, Saksa, digital image, historia, history, kaupunki, kesäloma, matka, summer holiday, town, travel

Stüler died before planning was completed and Carl Busse handled the remaining details in 1865. In 1866, by order of the king and his cabinet, the Kommission für den Bau der Nationalgalerie (Commission for the construction of the national gallery) was created. Ground was broken in 1867 under the supervision of Heinrich Strack. In 1872 the structure was completed and interior work began. The opening took place on March 22, 1876 in the presence of the Kaiser. : 2016, Berliini, Berlin, Fujifilm, digital image, kaupunki, kesäloma, summer holiday, town Berliner Dom With no separation of Protestant church and state of Prussia, Wilhelm II officiated as the summus episcopus (Supreme Governor of the Evangelical State Church of Prussia's older Provinces, as it was named since 1875) and the state paid the complete construction cost of 11,5 million Marks. At 114 metres long, 73 metres wide and 116 metres tall, it was much larger than any of the previous buildings and was considered a Protestant counterweight to St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City. On 27 February 1905 the present building was inaugurated. It is built by Julius and Otto Raschdorff, father and son. In 1940 the blast waves of Allied bombing blew part of the windows away. On 24 May 1944, a bomb of combustible liquids entered the roof lantern of the dome. The fire could not be extinguished at that unreachable section of the dome. So the lantern burnt out and collapsed into the main floor. Between 1949 and 1953 a temporary roof was built to enclose the building. On 9 May 1967 the then still undivided Evangelical Church of the Union decided a committee for the reconstruction of the Supreme Parish and Cathedral Church, then located in East Berlin. The government of the Eastern German Democratic Republic did not oppose the work of the committee due to the concomitant inflow of Deutsche Marks. In 1975 reconstruction started, simplifying the building's original design and demolishing the northern wing, the 'Denkmalskirche' – Memorial Church. Compared by some to the Medici Chapel, it had survived the war completely intact, but astonishingly, was demolished purely for ideological reasons by the communist government due to it being a hall of honour for the Hohenzollern dynasty. It resulted in the surreal circumstance of scaffolding for restoration appearing on the church while detonation charges were applied to its undamaged rear. The government also demanded the removal of as many crosses as possible. The demolition and redesign cost 800,000 marks, while the restoration (done on the cheap) cost just 50,000 marks.[11] The Berlin Cathedral Building Society now seek to rebuild the Denkmalskirche. : 2016, Berliini, Berlin, Fujifilm, digital image, kaupunki, kesäloma, summer holiday, town

Most of the furnishings of the chancel originated in the previous Cathedral. The altar, designed by Friedrich August Stüler, is made of white marble and onyx. Behind it stands the apostle wall, designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel. Originally bronze, this choir screen is now completely gilded and separates off the baptismal area. The space behind the apostle wall contains a white marble baptismal font by Christian Daniel Rauch and a small altar surrounded by woodcarvings, above which hangs a painting of the apostle Peter. : 2016, Berliini, Berlin, Fujifilm, digital image, kaupunki, kesäloma, summer holiday, town
Berliner Dom The large Sauer organ of the High Parish and Cathedral Church of Berlin was designed and built at the same time as the building itself, and it is thus part of the church’s original artistic furnishings. At the time of its dedication in 1905, the organ was the largest in Germany, with its 7269 pipes and 113 registers, distributed across four manuals and pedals. The court organ builder Wilhelm Sauer, from Frankfurt on the Oder, created an instrument that embodied the newest technical and musical developments of German organ building at the time : 2016, Berliini, Berlin, Fujifilm, digital image, kaupunki, kesäloma, summer holiday, town Berliner Dom The pulpit is a marvelous work of oak woodcarving designed by Otto Raschdorff, the son and employee of the Cathedral’s architect. Friedrich Wilhelm Nikolaus Karl, known informally as "Fritz", was the only son of Emperor Wilhelm I and was raised in his family's tradition of military service. Although celebrated as a young man for his leadership and successes during the Second Schleswig, Austro-Prussian and Franco-Prussian wars, he nevertheless professed a hatred of warfare and was praised by friends and enemies alike for his humane conduct. Following the unification of Germany in 1871 his father, then King of Prussia, became the German Emperor. With its height of 368 meters, it is the tallest structure in Germany, and the second tallest structure in the European Union. The TV tower had several architects. Its former design was done by Hermann Henselmann, and Jörg Streitparth. It was built by the East German architects Fritz Dieter, Günter Franke and Werner Ahrendt between 1965-69. Ampelmann The East German pedestrian traffic light symbols, or‚ ampel men’ are Berlin born and bred. They came into being on October 13th 1961 when, in response to the growing threat of road traffic accidents, the traffic psychologist, Karl Peglau , introduced the first pedestrian signals to the GDR capital. And so the vehicle traffic light, which had directed traffic alone up to that point, was joined by the pedestrian traffic light. Its design was psychologically conceived, because road-users react more quickly to appealing symbols. : 2016, Berliini, Berlin, Fujifilm, Germany, Saksa, digital image, historia, history, kaupunki, kesäloma, matka, summer holiday, town, travel Standing on pole Two figures on a pole inside a restaurant/mall area. : 2016, Berliini, Berlin, Fujifilm, Germany, Saksa, digital image, historia, history, kaupunki, kesäloma, matka, summer holiday, town, travel Berlin Bear This time presenting U- and S-bahn route maps. : 2016, Berliini, Berlin, Germany, LG, Saksa, kaupunki, kesäloma, matka, mobile phone, summer holiday, town, travel Neptunbrunnen The Neptune Fountain in Berlin was built in 1891 and was designed by Reinhold Begas. st. Marienkirche Along with the Nikolaikirche, the Marienkirche is the oldest church in Berlin. The oldest parts of the church are made from granite, but most of it is built of brick, giving it its characteristic bright red appearance. This was deliberately copied in the construction of the nearby Berlin City Hall, the Rotes Rathaus. The exact age of the original church site and structure is not precisely known, but it was first mentioned in German chronicles in 1292. It is presumed to date from earlier in the 13th century. The architecture of the building is now largely composed of comparatively modern restoration work which took place in the late 19th century and in the post-war period. : 2016, Berliini, Berlin, Fujifilm, Germany, Saksa, digital image, historia, history, kaupunki, kesäloma, matka, summer holiday, town, travel Trabi Meaning "satellite" or "companion" in German, the name was inspired by Soviet Sputnik.
